About HP Radar

Real hardware. Real data. Running from Hai Phong, Vietnam.

Our Story

HP Radar started as a curiosity — can we see what's flying over Vietnam and what ships transit the Gulf of Tonkin? That curiosity turned into a network of 8 ground stations spanning ADS-B and AIS receivers across Hai Phong City. Every aircraft track and vessel position you see is received by antennas on real rooftops, processed locally, and delivered to your screen in real time.

Station Hardware

ADS-B Stations (4 units)

Receiving 1090 MHz signals from aircraft transponders up to 250+ nautical miles. Each station uses RTL-SDR or RadarBox dongles with custom antennas, feeding readsb-protobuf software. We contribute data to FlightRadar24, RadarBox, and OpenSky Network.

AIS Stations (4 units)

Monitoring VHF marine band (161.975/162.025 MHz) for ship position reports, identification, and voyage data. Stations run AIS-catcher software and feed MarineTraffic, FleetMon, VesselFinder, and VesselTraffic.

Our Mission

We believe in open data and DIY spirit. Every station was built with off-the-shelf components at a fraction of commercial cost. We document our builds so others in Vietnam — and beyond — can do the same. The aviation and maritime communities in Southeast Asia deserve30 accessible, real-time tracking tools without subscription fees.
